What are conveyor belt cold splicing and vulcanized splicing

There are currently two conveyor belt splicing methods. Cold bonded belt splicing and hot vulcanized belt splicing. The strength of these two types of joints can reach 80-90% of the conveyor belt; the strength of the mechanical joints can only get 60-65%. And this connection method does not leak material, is not easy to tear, and is not easy to damage the roller. However, both methods of connection have their own advantages and disadvantages. The editor will give you a detailed introduction below:

Conveyor belt cold splicing

The advantages are fast splicing speed, short time, low cost, and easy location selection. The disadvantage is that it has high environmental requirements, such as rain, snow, and dust, and the temperature greatly affects the splicing agent. The durability is shorter than the hot tack time. Temperature, humidity or conveyor belt thickness are not suitable for cold bonding.

Conveyor belt hot splicing

Because the hot splice joint is completely enclosed, it is less affected by the environment and has a long service life. Disadvantages: The hot joint requires a vulcanizer and 380 power supply, and the transportation of the conveyor is laborious. The relative cost is high.

So, how to choose which method to use for conveyor belt splicing joints?

1. The conveyor belt type determines whether it must be hot vulcanized. If it is a steel wire belt (ST), the vulcanized conveyor belt joint must be made; if it is a layered belt (EP), it can be hot vulcanized or cold spliced, depending on the situation. The thickness is thicker. Large ones are best vulcanized.

2. Width (referring to EP tape) and length. Generally speaking, 1000mm is the limit. It can be cold spliced if the width is less than 1000mm. If the width exceeds 1000mm, it is best to heat vulcanize. Of course, this is just a general rule. It would help to consider other factors, such as lifting angle, material, belt speed, working conditions, etc. Generally speaking, hot vulcanized splicing joints are used for longer conveyor belt lengths, and cold bonding is used for shorter conveyor belts.

3. You can refer to the location of the conveyor belt. Some conveyor belts cannot accommodate the vulcanizing machine, so cold splicing joints are selected.

4. You can refer to the materials being transported, such as acid and alkali resistance, heat resistance, and relatively high density; for those with relatively high moisture content, choosing hot vulcanized splicing joints is better.
